Mental health toolkit for non-specialist nurses
The RCN Foundation is working with the University of Huddersfield and other partners to create an online toolkit of resources for non-specialist nurses working with children and young people.
For the first phase of this toolkit, the University of Huddersfield are developing a web-based app that can be readily accessed by non-specialist nurses to assess the child or young person in that moment.
The second phase will focus on developing an app that supports the application of specific online interventions that have positive impacts on wellbeing among children and young people. This app will act as a guide for nurses as they cultivate therapeutic relationships with their charges, and help them identify other interventions which may help, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.
The third phase will be to develop and deliver a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) that makes training in this area accessible to nurses in every part of the UK and beyond.
Feedback from the apps will shape the curriculum offered through the online course.
Once these three phases are complete, the resources will be hosted here as a one-stop online toolkit for nurses who work with children and young people in the UK.
