Social Care Nurses guide to Revalidation

Many nurses working throughout social care are reporting that they find the NMC revalidation process challenging for a number of reasons. These include often working in isolation as a Registered Nurse for Learning Disability (RNLD) which may limit the opportunities for the reflective discussions, or their role as an RNLD not being understood or recognised within the setting they practice in.

To support nurses who are working in social care, to remain registered with the NMC as an RNLD, the RCN Foundation provided the Foundation of Nursing Studies with a grant to produce a short video.

The video takes you through the different steps to the revalidation process. It provides hints and tips as to how those working in a social care setting can revalidate with the NMC. There is information about reflective conversations; examples of the evidence such as feedback from service users and carers and the documents required to be submitted to the NMC. There is also helpful information included for your confirmer.

FoNS believes that ‘revalidation is a positive opportunity because it encourages an ongoing process of sharing, reflecting and improving’, a view shared by Kate Lettin, Revalidation Officer, NMC who said 'this is a very positive and practical video that will be extremely useful for nurses working in social care'.
